Great Buckeye Challenge 8/21/11 (Twitter updates)

Aug 29, 03:15 PM

For my last race, I decided to update how things were going via twitter. I don’t know if anyone was reading them, but it gives an interesting perspective on how the morning went!

Tomorrow early morning is my 3rd race of the year. Going to be another early morning!

5:25 and i’m on the road to springfield. Praying for no rain before or during the race!
21 Aug

Made it to the park! Cool and misty, but it’s still dry!
21 Aug

Got my number: 111

Great, coming out of the water there’s a nice 100ft or so up a hill to transition.
21 Aug

Transition area ready to go. Just found out today the water is wetsuit legal. 72 deg. A little chilly, but i don’t have a choice.
21 Aug

Just saw a guy with almost the exact same outfit! Thankfully there aren’t too many red tri tops with black shorts.
21 Aug

Brain farts. Forgot goggles in trans and forgot socks in car. Still enough time, though.
21 Aug

10 min to race time. Time to get wet and ready to go!
21 Aug

Done! Waiting for official results but definitely best race of the season!
21 Aug

Cool thing about HFP racing being a christian race organizer: hearing Phil Whickam’s “You’re Beautiful” at the finish line.
21 Aug

I feel surprisingly good. Usually I feel dead after a race, this time I’m tired, but not completely drained.
21 Aug

Quick recap: swim felt slow but steady, strong ride, decent run(no walking except aid stations).
21 Aug

Official overall time : 1:41:06. 10 out of 13 in my age group. 107 overall in the sprint.
21 Aug

Home! Great race! 1:41:06 official total time, 10th out of 13 in my age group, 107 overall. I felt much better this time than last race!
21 Aug

This ends my 2011 race season! A special thanks to Kristy for her support with all the training and wrangling twins (while pregnant)!

  1. I saw your Twitter feeds before your race! I was really surprised b/c I didn’t know you had service, but it was nice to wake up and be able to see how you were doing since I hadn’t heard from anyone b/c you all were letting me sleep in! You’re welcome for the times that I took care of them while you trained. I’m proud of you and excited about how much you’ve enjoyed doing these! I’m glad I introduced you to the sport. Now I just need to get reacquainted with it!
