A tooth plus one coming in, crawling, and food!

Jul 2, 11:57 AM

Evie started crawling today (Monday, June 28th) at 10 1/2 months old or 8 months adjusted! She has been shifting back and forth on all fours for at least the last two months and so we’d been saying for awhile that she is going to crawl soon. Well, it FINALLY happened! We were beginning to think that she would walk before she crawls. The last few days she’s been lunging for things and then take a few crawling steps, but that was it and then she would move backward again. She has been “crawling” backward for awhile now. Last Tuesday (June 22nd) she started this thing where she would be on her tummy and then she would stand on all fours with her little bottom in the air and then she would push herself down into a sitting position. She was starting to get really frustrated with always going backward. This morning she tried really hard for Daddy and would crawl a few steps to get a toy. Today after work, mommy came upstairs and Evie saw her coming. Mommy disappeared and crawled in to watch through the play yard “fence”. Neither Evie nor R.J. knew she was there. When she made herself known, it was very obvious that Evie wanted to come see her but she couldn’t get there. Mommy got into the play yard with them and kept trying to entice her with a few balls and she crawled a little bit. Then she saw the peridot and pearl necklace that Daddy had given to Mommy for Mother’s Day around Mommy’s neck and oh my goodness did she want it. That got her moving! So, thank you Daddy for getting Mommy the necklace that got Evie to crawl! We were able to get this on film which we will post sometime soon.

At least 3 weeks ago, R.J. started “break dancing” on the floor. He does 360s on his belly using his hands to spin himself in whatever direction he pleases and then rolls to wherever he wants to go. He is a very determined baby (as is his sister) and he is smart to be able to get to wherever he wants without crawling! We are hoping that he will see his sister moving around and pick up crawling quickly. Or maybe we aren’t…two mobile babies…YIKES! Just kidding – we would love The Bubb to figure out this crawling thing.

Last Thursday (June 24th), Evie indicated that she was interested in standing, so we stood her up and she held onto the play yard for several minutes by herself. Daddy got it on film!

And the last bit of really exciting news – we discovered on their 10 month birthday (June 18th) that Evie had her bottom, right, middle tooth and it wasn’t just barely peeking through! How did we miss this???!!! Mommy discovered yesterday (June 27th) that Evie’s other middle, bottom, tooth had broken through!!! R.J. still has a toothless smile and he is still as cute as can be too!

In other news, the babies have been eating solid (pureed) food for awhile now. R.J. loves food. Even Karen at school (daycare) has told Daddy how excited he gets when it’s time to eat. Evie is a picky-eater compared to R.J. They both love mixed vegetables, and fruit. We introduced them to yogurt last week – they had banana yogurt and LOVED it! They both really enjoy puffs too. These are basically puffs that stick to your tongue and melt in your mouth, so they can’t really choke on them. R.J. has figured out how to gum them, so he looks like he’s chewing his food – it’s really cute! We introduced meat a week or two ago once and then started giving it to them on a regular basis starting this weekend. R.J. of course loved his rice and chicken and his vegetable beef. Evie, on the other hand wasn’t as into it. Mommy got her to eat all of her beef by masking it with pears. Daddy thought it was disgusting sounding, but hey, I’m sure people put some sort of pear glaze on top of some cut of beef or another. And if not, then maybe we will try it sometime! Anyway, it worked and she ate it all. Evie loves fruit and they both still love their milk! We are slowly introducing milk products such as the yogurt and cheese soon to see how they tolerate it. Their pediatrician tells us that once they hit a year, we can start giving them whole milk. That will be a huge milestone (for Mommy as well)!
